MEET THE TOUCH GRASS TOUR FAMILY

A twenty-year journey around the world. Three kids. No plans to slow down.

A mother and three young children in a boat, wearing life vests, exploring a lush green jungle waterway as part of the Touch Grass Tour family travel blog

Our adventure began in Hamburg. We were study abroad students: I came from New York, Kat from New Zealand. Our second date was a spur-of-the-moment budget flight to Casablanca. The pattern for the rest of our lives had been set.

Over the next twenty years, work took us around the world. Kids followed, each of them born on a different continent. Friends and family predicted we’d finally hang up our shoes. We didn’t.

Far from slowing us down, the kids have added new joy to ever trip.  Showing them the world, teaching them what we’ve learned, and equipping them to navigate it themselves one day — that is the heart of our Touch Grass Tour.

HOW WE TRAVEL, AND WHY

As much as we like sharing the beautiful things we see, we aren’t pushing a postcard version of life on the road. Instead, these are the three promises that guide how we explore, learn, and share our journey:

01 /

REALITY OVER AESTHETHICS

We prioritize the messy, practical logistics of travel over picture-perfect moments. If a route was grueling, a budget was tight, or a plan fell apart, we’ll tell you. You’ll get the honest reality of the road, every time.

02 /

EXPLORATION FORWARD

We aim to move past the typical tourist circuit to understand the places we visit. For our family, travel is the ultimate classroom—an intentional way to learn history, language, and culture on the ground.

03 /

OPEN-SOURCE TRANSPARENCY

We believe meaningful, long-term family travel is entirely possible, but it takes planning. We share our actual trip blueprints, rhythms, and mistakes not to boast, but to show you exactly how it’s done so you can map out your own adventures.
